The Standard deck I used during Zendikar Game Day.

Worked very well--in fact, it worked TOO well. Since most of the current Standard block deck types waste their first 3 turns to set up, this deck takes the opportunity to go on full offensive and keep attacking until they lose. Of course, the current popular Standard builds start running on the 4th turn, but by then it'll be too late for them.

The ideal opening hand for this deck should include at least 3 lands and 1 Goblin Guide, but I've played with only 2 hands and with no Goblin Guide without any real difficulty; that is, when not against bad matchups.

Bad matchups would be against fast decks that have some form of defense, such as the builds revolving around Goblin Bushwacker, and the mono-Black Vampire tribal decks. As a matter of fact, the winner of the event was a Vampire deck, with the second place going to the Red White "Boros Bushwacker" deck. The mirror match will depend on who goes first, assuming both have ideal opening hand draws.

This deck still needs to be tweaked in order to handle bad matchups. Elemental Appeal, despite the extreme damage potential, was hardly used in actual games, and so they usually got swapped out between rounds. Counterspells seems to be less of a factor in the current environment, so maybe Pyroclasm can be put back in. If ever this deck becomes more popular, perhaps Dragon Claw might even stage a comeback, though I personally think the 1 life gain might not make any difference considering the massive damage dealing capability of this deck.

...I am very displeased at the lack of me in this core set. I understand they only have slots for 41 individual spells to represent their respective color, but they couldn't even spare one for me?

Instead of giving me my official planeswalker debut we get Chandra Nalaar. Again. Lame.

Really now... What the pits is Lord Maro and Master Phelddagrif thinking? I would have been the superior choice, Wort it all.
